What is non-emergency medical transportation?

Nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) is transportation by ambulance, wheelchair van, or litter van for those who cannot use public or private transportation. Nonmedical transportation (NMT) is transportation by private or public vehicle for people who do not have another way to get to their appointment.

What kind of rides can I book with MedTran?

The most traditional purpose for riding with MedTran would be to and from non-emergency medical, dental, vision, and mental health appointments. MedTran is useful especially under circumstances when the rider is unable to transport themselves safely following their appointment – such as situations where anesthesia and eye dilation. Additionally, MedTran is able to provide transportation for individuals in need of a ride to and from the airport, grocery store, and family gatherings.

Who is eligible to utilize non-emergency medical transportation with MedTran?

Non-emergency patient transport is provided to those patients who have a medical need, and to those for whom their mobility or medical condition makes it difficult or impossible to transport themselves independently. This includes individuals who are wheelchair-bound.

How much does wheelchair transport with MedTran cost?

The cost for a ride from MedTran varies depending on if the rider is ambulatory or wheelchair-bound. The cost is as follows:

Wheelchair-bound riders:

$35.00 + $3.00/MILE (ONE-WAY)

$60.00 + $3.00/MILE (ROUND TRIP)

$70.00 + $3.00/MILE (HOSPITAL DISCHARGE)

*$30 surcharge to pick up oxygen portable for hospital discharges

Ambulatory riders:

$15.00 + $3.00/MILE (ONE-WAY)
$30.00 + $3.00/MILE (ROUND TRIP)

How do I request a ride through MedTran if I want to use my insurance to cover the cost?

If you have an insurance benefit that you believe will pay for your transport, you will need to contact your local broker to schedule the ride. We cannot book rides directly; it has to go through your insurance broker. 

How do I request a ride through MedTran if I would like Medicaid to cover the cost?

If you have a Medicaid that you believe will pay for your transport, you will need to contact your local broker to schedule the ride. We cannot book rides directly; it has to go through your Medicaid insurance broker.

How do I request a ride through MedTran if I would like to use private pay to cover the cost?

We can schedule rides for private pay directly by calling our full-time dispatcher who is available Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. Feel free to leave a message after hours or on our secured voicemail. You can also use the online booking tool to set up your next appointment. For all private pay riders, payment is due at time of service.
